Tips: How to choose a college dorm with the start of 2nd semester!

It is already the start of the 2nd semester here in the Philippines and students that are dissatisfied with their dormitory or boarding houses would now start to look for a better place to stay.

With this in mind, we have come up with some tips on how you can choose a suitable college dormitory for yourself.

  • Ask around, and ask the right people. Asking a freshman and asking a senior makes a world of a difference. Experienced seniors will be able to point you in the right direction when it comes to accommodation.
  •  Check the notice boards in your university. People post advertisements for any rooms/apartments available regularly on university notice boards and they will be a great source of information.
  •  Compile a list of the dorms that you have found, along with their pros and cons to suit your personal preference.
  •  Consider all the aspects that matter to you. For example, if you live in a tropical country, you might want to opt for a dorm that has air conditioning. If you are an internet junkie, you might want to opt for a student dorm that has unlimited wi-fi. If you do have special needs, you will have to take into consideration the accessible factors of the facilities at these dorms.
  •  Consider too the room arrangements in the dorms. If you are one who prefers your privacy, make sure the dorm you choose will have maybe two students to a room, or find out if you can have your own room!
  •  Location, location, location!!! It is so important to live in a dorm that is close enough to your university/college. That will give you easier access to the university's facilities such as the library, and also allow you to sleep in for that to-die-for extra 5 minutes! Choosing a dorm close to other amenities such as a supermarket, eateries and takeaway places would be extremely helpful. That way you will not have to worry about food, or wanting to snack at late hours when you have that killer of an exam to study for.
  •  Rank all your preferences as you go along, after considering all these factors, and narrow down the selection to maybe 2 or 3 dorms. Arrange for an inspection so that you can see the dorm for yourself. Take cost into consideration and make your very well-informed decision!
